Our history

Since the 1830s, Welti Furrer has developed from a small horse-drawn carriage company into one of the most renowned transportation companies in Switzerland. What began as a local family business is now a nationally and internationally active provider of customized transport and logistics solutions. With over ten locations throughout Switzerland, we have been moving people and values for more than 180 years - with innovative strength, experience and reliability.

Milestones in the history of Welti Furrer

1838

Jakob Furrer founds the carting company in Zurich.

1880

With the arrival of Jakob Albert Welti, son-in-law of the founding family, the company gains new momentum and focuses on increasing mobility.

1993

Integration of the companies "Welti-Furrer Sachentransport AG", "Welti-Furrer Personentransport AG" and "Welti-Furrer Handels AG" into the Knecht Group.

1996

Founding of Welti-Furrer Fine Art AG in Zurich - with a focus on the sensitive transportation of works of art.

1999

Acquisition of the Hardweid AG properties by WF-Immobilien AG and takeover of the relocation activities of Voegtlin-Meyer AG in Brugg.

2000s

Expansion of the range of services to include specialized logistics solutions, including for museums and institutions.

2008

Thomas Knecht takes over as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Knecht Group.

2013

Welti Furrer celebrates its 175th anniversary.

Today

Welti Furrer is one of Switzerland's leading providers of removals, heavy haulage, crane work and art logistics.
